2017 Valachi Downs C’ship Stakes Group 2 April 22 - Ellerslie

3 minute read

Tavidream wins 2017 Valachi Downs C’ship Stakes Group 2 NZ$100,000 at Ellerslie (NZ), 2100m.

From barrier nine rider Alysha Collett bounced the favourite Tavidream away to co-lead (one out) passing the winning post with a circuit to run. Near the 1400m Collett found a lovely spot in fourth, one out and one back where they remained to the 800m. Collett made her move just before straightening, cruised up to the lead and took over passing the 300m and broke clear at the 200m but was challenged hard in the last 50m yet held on gamely for win five (four in succession) from seven starts. This fellow has a bright future.

Charles Road was fifth (inner) at the 800m, got away from the fence turning in and went after the leaders, almost catching the winner in a strong late finish.

Camino Rocoso led them into the straight, was headed at the 300m but kept on well for third from Jake The Muss who rattled home late for fourth.
