Dracarys wins 2017 Up & Coming Group 3 $150,000 at Randwick (NSW), 1300m.
Peter and Paul Snowden-trained colt Dracarys put up a very promising effort in taking out this Group race at his fourth race start. Having his second run this preparation, he settled in sixth place, one off the rails, tracking a fast pace, before improving well (deep) rounding the home turn. He then finished well, hit the front on passing the 100m and went on to score narrowly but impressively and in very fast time (windassisted).
Gold Standard was slow to move and recovered to settle in fifth place on the rails. He eased deeper nearing the home turn, briefly took the lead at the 100m and then fought gamely for a close second, his slow start proving costly.
Godolphin-raced colt Sanction raced outside the leader (Trapeze Artist), got to a narrow lead at the 200m and then held on to take the minor placing after working at a quick early tempo.
The favourite Calculated was handily place to the home turn but was soon under pressure in the straight and dropped out to finish (4.9 lengths) last, racing well below expectations.
