New Zealand-bred filly Aloisia, who was an unlucky second in the J J Atkins Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Doomben in June, broke through for a decisive Group One victory here. She travelled nicely in fifth place on the rails, Luke Nolen got her through on the inner at the 300m and she hit the front at the 100m before going on for a strong win, running the 1600m out well.

Shoals enjoyed a good trip in third place on the rails. She got an inside run rounding the home turn, took the lead shortly afterwards and then kept fighting back well before tiring in the latter stages for second after seeming to have had every chance.

The favourite Alizee was a bit keen early on and then settled in sixth place, one of the rails. She improved rounding the home turn, got to fourth at the 200m and briefly looked a threat. But just kept fighting from that point to take third, performing below the form she showed in winning the Flight Stakes (Gr 1, 1600m) at Randwick at her prior start on 30 September suggesting that she may have reached the end of her preparation.

She’s So High was a handy fourth, moved up nicely at the home turn and then battled on quite well for (5.75 lengths) fourth.
