Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 13th & 15th of October

3 minute read

Gran Torino has continued his strong form since coming to Singapore when scoring a nice win in the Class 4 over 1200m at Kranji on Sunday.

The former Australian runner claimed victory in his Singapore debut, beating the very useful Dutrow over 1100m, before going on to run second in a Class 4 behind Sun Dream.

Gran Torino did not have a great deal of luck on that occasion when finding trouble early in the race but still did a terrific job to finish runner up to a very good one in Sun Dream.

Given almost a month between runs, Gran Torino came into Sunday’s race on the back of a barrier trial win over 1000m and didn’t disappoint punters scoring an easy victory over Flying Winner with Greatballs Of Fire well back in third.

The lightly raced four-year-old gelding ran to a new career peak Timeform figure, well clear of what he had produced his previous two runs in Singapore.

With just the five starts to his name, Gran Torino is certainly open to further improvement and proven on both the turf and Polytrack he is certainly one to follow as he makes his way through the grades.

Earlier in the programme Mcgregor was able to return to the winners circle with a narrow win in the Class 3 over 1400m.

Taken straight to the lead by Nooresh Juglall, Mcgregor did enough to hold on from Supernova in second, with Valbuena a lengh further away in third.

The seven-year-old gelding ran to a new career peak figure in what was his first win since claiming a class 4 in May, nine starts back.

Mcgregor was able to get the better of Supernova who came into the race with pretty good form and with the 57kg ran to his highest rating since running second in a benchmark 67 in May.

Friday night saw Sky Rocket pick up a nice win on debut when lining up in the Initiation over 1200m.

Taken to the lead by Glen Boss from barrier six, Sky Rocket fought hard in the straight to gain the uperhand from Black Quail who finished a half length away in second with Tosoro Privado well back in third.

Coming into the race off a barrier trial win over 1000m at Kranji, the Stephen Gray-trained runner certainly appears to have ability with the likes of Tesoro Privado, The Odds and Iffragal coming off strong recent form.

With plenty of improvement to come, if Sky Rocket can continue to improve off the high figure he ran to on Friday night he can certainly work his way through the grades this preparation.
