Noted wet-tracker Grand Dreamer appreciated the conditions and a solid pace in winning here. He settled well back in third last place in the 12-horse field and was at least 15 lengths from the tearaway leader (Big Blue) at the 800m. He improved from the 600m, went to fourth at the home turn before running on resolutely to score well in the closing stages.

Oncidium Ruler raced back in seventh place, got along the inner rounding the home to be in a challenging position on straightening. He then kept battling on solidly for second.

The favourite Grey Lion raced back in sixth place, looked dangerous as he moved up nearing the home turn. He challenged at the 200m and kept fighting on to take third after seeming to have had every chance.

De Little Engine was well back to the home turn and caught the eye running on late for (2.3 lengths) fourth in a solid staying effort.

Mr Garcia was a distant fifth before making ground to be third at the home turn. He challenged at the 200m but tired over the closing stages for (3.8 lengths) fifth, seemingly tested by the 2200m in the difficult conditions.
