Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - 9th & 11th of February

3 minute read

Tannhauser has bounced back to the winners circle with a handy win in the Class 2 (1200m) at Kranji on Sunday.

After a modest showing in the Kranji Stakes B the start prior when returning a roarer, Tannhauser was able to score his first victory on the turf as he looks towards some feature racing this campaign, now having won five of his seven starts.

Jumping away well with Vlad Duric on board and settling off the leaders in third, the Michael Clements-trained runner ran on well in the straight, taking the lead from Darc Bounty at the 100m, to run out a one and a quarter length winner.

Tannhauser returned a new career peak Timeform figure of 92, one pound higher than his Class 3 win late last year when running to 91p.

Connections have indicated they will look to aim up at the sprint series, starting with the Group 3 JBBA Rocket Man Sprint (1200m) on April 1 but will need to have at least one more run on the turf.

Regarded as one of the up-and-coming sprinters in Singapore, Tannhauser is certainly one to watch going forward and has certainly shown enough to suggest he can measure up in Group races.

Friday night saw Grand Cross return to the winners circle when claiming the Class 2 over 1200m.

Away well from the middle barrier to settle second for much of the race, Grand Cross took the lead at the 200m and ran on strongly over the final stages for a one length win over Draco in second with Viviano in third.

In what was his first win since claiming a Class 3 in March of last year, Grand Cross returned a new career peak Timeform figure of 92, four pounds above his narrow second in a Benchmark 83 three runs back.

The son of Fastnet Rock continues to build an impressive career record, winning six of his 20 starts and placing on another six occasions as he makes his way through the grades.

Race favourite Draco was far from disgraced in second, running to a Timeform figure of 82, two pounds below his win the start prior in a Class 3.

Fairly lightly raced with just the 13 starts to his name but has featured in the money on nine occasions and still has improvement to come.
