Singapore Racing - Weekend Review - June 15th & 17th

3 minute read

There were plenty of strong winners in Singapore over the weekend and one of those was Special King on Sunday who took out the Class 3 over 1100m on the Polytrack.

Coming off strong form this campaign, the three-year-old settled up on the speed in third for much of the race and proved too good over the concluding stages, beating Dreams Come True by just under a length with Splinter third.

Special King, who has now won three of his 10 starts, placing on a further four occasions returned a solid Timeform figure of 79, one pound below his previous best which was achieved when runner up to Dutrow in similar company the start prior.

The son of Magnus looks to have plenty of improvement to come going into his four-year-old season and now a Class 3 winner could be eyeing off some stakes races over the sprinting trips.

The last nine starts of Special King have come on the Polytrack and all three wins have also come over the 1100m trip although his effort two starts back indicates he is not out of place over 1200m as well.

On Friday the Steven Burridge-trained two-year-old took out the IRT Juvenile Stakes (1200m) by an impressive four lengths following a third on debut the start prior.

Settling much closer in the run today, Lim’s Lightning was terrific in the straight running out a dominant winner over Makkem Lad in second with My Big Boss third.

Lim’s Lightning, ridden by Frenchman Ryan Curatolo returned a new career peak Timeform rating of 76, 10 pounds above his debut effort and certainly appears to be a two-year-old to follow going forward.

Burridge indicated should the horse pull up okay he will potentially line up in the next two legs of the Golden Horseshoe series over the next month and his win on Friday certainly puts him squarely in the mix for those races.

Sky Rocket was able to continues his terrific form this campaign with a win in the Class 3 over 1400m later in the day.

The Stephen Gray-trained runner resumed with a big win by over seven lengths in a Class 4 Premier before placing in his next two starts at Class 3 level.

Sky Rocket, who has now won three of his seven career starts ran to a Timeform figure of 83, one pound below his big win first up and certainly appears to be a horse on the rise.

Now with a win at Class 3 level, much like Special King he may look to progress into a Stakes race where you would expect him to be very competitive based on recent form.

Despite being a four-year-old, Sky Rocket is very lightly raced with just the seven starts to his name and is likely to continue to improve.
