Thin Oaks Oppositioin For Streama

3 minute read

Another leading Australian Oaks contender has been ruled out of Saturday's Randwick classic with trainer Graham Begg deciding to spell Arian Knox Stakes runner-up Plumm.

Begg decided that asking Plumm to back up for her third race in 14 days in the Oaks would be too much for a filly in her first preparation.

"She's only had five starts and running in the Oaks would be her third race on successive Saturdays – it's just too much for a filly we think a lot of," Begg said.

"She's done a good job so far and we really are looking towards next season with her.

"We will forsake the Oaks and send her for a spell until the spring."

Plumm loomed as one of the few fillies in the Oaks capable of testing the favourite Streama after her late closing second to Kiwi filly Full Of Spirit in the Adrian Knox Stakes over 2000m at Randwick last Saturday.

Full Of Spirit was impressive and is now second favourite for the Oaks behind Streama, Sydney's top filly in the spring when she capped a string of feature wins with a victory in the G1 Flight Stakes.

Streama won the G2 Surround Stakes (1400m) second up in March and produced the standout Oaks trial of the autumn when she made up six lengths in the last 400m on VRC Oaks winner Mosheen to finish a half length second in the G1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m) at Rosehill on March 31.

With no Mosheen in the Oaks, Streama dominates the betting at $1.75 on TAB Sportsbet with Full Of Spirit at $4.50 ahead of Wednesday's declaration of the final field.
