Randwick trainer John O'Shea is expecting boom filly Sea Siren to show further improvement from her BTC Cup win last start when lining up in the Group 1 Doomben 10,000 on Saturday.
Sea Siren had her final piece of fast work this morning with John O'Shea pleased with what he witnessed in the lead up to Saturday's Group 1 Doomben 10,000 (1350m).
“I was really happy when I saw her,” O'Shea said.
“Her coat looks great and she came out and put in a really nice piece of work so we're really looking forward to taking on this race on Saturday.”
The filly is currently a $4.00 favourite with TAB Sportsbet Fixed Odds for the Doomben 10,000 where main opposition will likely come from the Rob Heathcote-trained duo of Buffering and Woorim plus Inglis Guineas winner Pampelonne.
O'Shea sounded an ominous warning to Sea Siren's Doomben 10,000 rivals suggesting the Fastnet Rock filly has come on since her first Group 1 success in the BTC Cup (1200m) last start.
“She wasn't right at the top of her game when she won the BTC Cup,” O'Shea told Sky Sports Radio.
“She had a lot of improvement left in her and there is no doubting she has made that nice improvement just having had the run and spending the time up here.”
The field will be finalised tomorrow and with a hot tempo expected, O'Shea believes a good draw is crucial to Sea Siren's chances.
“Because there is so much speed you wouldn't want to be drawn wide because you would be compelled to go back,” O'Shea said.
“Going back at Doomben doesn't give you too many options.”
Stablemate Hoss Amor will have her second start this campaign when contesting the Listed Phoenix Slipper (1350m).
The General Nediym filly showed encouraging signs on resuming when second in the Listed Hampden Stakes (1200m) behind Noogoora Burr who has since run a respectable fourth behind the very talented colt Sizzling.
“I thought Noogoora Burr ran really good on Saturday,” O'Shea said.
“He's raced three weeks in a row so he might have just found the bottom of him but he hit the front and was very competitive so that is a good form line for Hoss Amor going into Saturday.
“We'll probably take the blinkers off her because she worked very sharply there this morning. We'll allow her to relax in the run and be inclined to ride her a little quieter.
“I couldn't be happier with her. She really attacked the line in her work this morning and I think she will appreciate the 1350m at Doomben.
“I think she just needs a bit of racing now. She has thrived up here. She has put on 10kg in the past seven days so she has really enjoyed herself up here.
“We worked her with an Open company Listed winner and she more than held her own so it augers well for Saturday.
“We'll ride her a little bit off the speed and I'm sure she will be very competitive on Saturday.”
