UK: Rival Emerges For Black Caviar

3 minute read

Talented sprinter Pastoral Player has Black Caviar in his sights after opening his Pattern-race account in the Timeform Jury Stakes at Haydock.

The son of 2005 July Cup hero Pastoral Pursuits could take on the Australian wonder mare in the G1 Diamond Jubilee Stakes at Royal Ascot thanks to successfully stepping up from handicaps.

Majestic Myles looked like lifting the Group Three event at Haydock when he headed the pacesetting Red Jazz, but he had no answer to Hughie Morrison's five-year-old, who showed a tidy turn of foot under Darryll Holland to win by a length and a half.

"The penny has taken a long time to drop with this one. He was a very wild boy.

"The question is where we go next. He was third in the Wokingham last year, he likes the track (at Ascot), so maybe we'll go for the big one.

"How many is Black Caviar going to frighten off?" said owner Glen Swire.
