After going down narrowly in the race last year with Detours, Complicate proceeded to live up to his early promise when landing his first stakes success.

Resuming from a spell in fantastic order when scoring at Canterbury last start, the son of Commands proved too strong in the finish when holding off the John O'Shea trained Ashokan and the Joe Pride trained Brave Soul.

While yet to decide which way to head with the talented gelding, Snowden claims he is very similar to that of Group 1 winning sprinter, Mental, at the same point of their careers.

“He's just not up to the top level just yet he's still a long way off, to me he reminds me a lot Mental, that sort of profile,” Snowden said.

“I'm not saying he is Mental but he's got the same sort of ability, if he progresses the right way and we place him right and look after him he could be A grade.

Following today's performance, Snowden said he is likely to give Complicate a short break and aim him at either the Hawkesbury Guineas or a tilt towards the Brisbane Winter carnival.

“I might just give him a little bit of a breather for a bit at the moment, the A Grade races in Sydney are quite there for him at the moment,” Snowden said.

“I think a race like the Hawkesbury Guineas and possibly a trip to Brisbane could be on the cards.

“He's a full brother to El Cambio who was a sprinter/miler and I think this fellow will be much the same.

“I think 1600m will be his right trip.”
