Valley Gallop For Cauthen

3 minute read

Boom Kiwi three-year-old Cauthen will have confidence building hit-out on the course proper at Moonee Valley on Tuesday morning ahead of his rematch with Clevadude in Saturday's $120,000 Listed Mitchell McKenzie Stakes.

Clevadude, scratched from last Saturday's Vain Stakes at Caufield, will also go the Valley for the trackwork session.

Clevadude boasts a perfect record of two wins from two starts at Moonee Valey including his last start success over 1000m on August 3 when he beat the unlucky Cauthen when the Kiwi was making his Australian debut.

Cauthen was unlucky not to have won the race after being checked at the 500m mark when crowded for room along the rail.

Hore-Lacy admitted that Cauthen probably should have beaten Clevadude due to the interference but says the Kiwi will be meeting a fitter rival on Saturday.

"Cauthen lost a couple of lengths and Clevadude only beat him by a length", Hore-Lacy noted.

“However Clevadude has come on really well from the last win.

“He races very well at Moonee Valley and he has improved. I think he'll run out the distance nicely.”

The Mitchell McKenzie Stakes will also feature the third placegetter from the August 3 event Weinholt, trained by Peter Moody.
