Victorian-trained mare Griante began well from her inside barrier (1) and enjoyed a good trip in fifth place on the rails. She got a split to challenge at the 200m, took the lead at the 100m and went on to win well with her light weight (51kg) after enjoying a perfect trip. Shiraz was back in ninth place, one off the rails, fanned deep on turning for home and ran on well, late for a good second. Dothraki was third on the rails, briefly hit the front at the 200m and then battled on quite well for a sound third. Fell Swoop was sixth, one off the rails, switched out to put in his bid at the 300m and then kept fighting on quite well for (1.5 lengths) fourth. Bounding had a good run in fourth place, challenged at the 200m and then battled on for (2 lengths) fifth while English settled at the tail of the field from her wide barrier (14) and made good late ground along the rails to finish (3.5 lengths) sixth.
