The Godolphin-raced import Spectroscope was ridden quietly by Corey Brown and remained in last place in the eight-horse field until nearing the 600m. He then improved between runners on straightening and sprinted quickly to take the lead at the 200m. He then fought back strongly to record his second impressive win, in as many starts, since coming to Australia. No Doubt raced in fourth place, moved up deep (under riding) at the 600m, challenged strongly at the 200m and then fought on very well for a really good second. Marenostro was back in second last place, tracked up well rounding the home turn and then kept battling on well (under pressure) from the 200m to take the minor placing. Rudy was fourth on the rails, was under riding at the 300m and kept battling on quite well to hold that position to the post while Echo Effect led the field at a good tempo before weakening in the latter stages for (5 lengths) fifth.
