2024 AFL 2nd Semi Final Preview & Tips – GWS v BRISBANE

3 minute read

Racing and Sports will provide analysis of games in the 2024 AFL Season.

We'll endeavour to run through the form, incorporate appropriate stats and also supply a betting prediction which won't always just be who will win.

GWS v BRISBANE

Saturday 14 September @ ENGIE Stadium

Thankfully the SCG Final occurred, otherwise the rest of them were an utter farce.

GWS played a huge part in that. In fact they played 3½ quarters of excellence then dropped the ball (and got Heeneyed).

The Giants held Warner and Gulden for most of the match and the forwards did well. And the backs were so good as they often are. Taylor, Buckley and Idun had the opposition at 4 goals to halftime.

But 6 goals in the last when Sydney had not looked likely could haunt them if they don't get a chance to do it all again in the Grand Final.

They did a lot right but some periods of genius got them when it counted most and the coach said himself they played for ¾ and didn't in the last.

In Brisbane, they face a side who at their best are highly dangerous and more than capable of winning. They have twice won at this ground too.

What can you take out of the Carlton win? They got to 10 goals up without Carlton even bothering the scorers. Few of them turned up.

Sides cannot let Daniher mainly, along with all those small forwards, to mark so easily. It is very much the Brisbane game plan. Less chaos and more class.

Match GWS Brisbane Ground
Last time they met 13.4 [82] 8.16 [64] Gabba
Last 10 matches 4 wins 6 wins
Finals Notes In Finals: 1/0 GWS
Met only in Rd23 where Lions led 31/1 at ¼ time and lost

Tactic: Lachie Neale is possibly adding another Brownlow to his tally in two weeks. Just try your best to take him out of the game. Boy does GWS need Toby Bedford fit and firing. He's the obvious tag.

GWS deserve another chance. They were excellent against Sydney for most of it and that should beat Brisbane if pressure remains high.

Brisbane seemingly having a weakened backline, assuming Payne is somewhat curtailed, hurts with Hogan and Cadman. That will be the big drama if it's a fine night.

Match Selection: GWS by 20 points

Suggested Bets: GWS -4.5 @ $1.91
