GWS veteran Stephen Coniglio has been substituted out of his side's AFL semi-final against Brisbane after hurting his cheekbone in a first-quarter marking contest.

Coniglio, backing into a dangerous position in the Giants' forward line, was accidentally clattered into by Harris Andrews late in the opening term.

The foundation Giant, who copped a heavy blow to the head as Andrews attempted to stop Aaron Cadman taking a mark, took a long time to get to his feet.

Coniglio trudged off Engine Stadium and headed straight to the rooms alongside club medicos.

GWS made the call at quarter-time to sub Coniglio, who also underwent a concussion test, out of the contest.

The Giants are yet to detail the extent of the damage to the 30-year-old's cheek.
