Adelaide midfielder Ebony Marinoff is tipped to take out the AFLW's highest individual honour, but North Melbourne's Jasmine Garner remains a threat.
Ebony Marinoff is in pole position to win her first AFLW best and fairest award, but faces stiff competition from perennial bridesmaid Jasmine Garner.
Monday night's count for the competition's highest individual honour looms and Adelaide midfielder Marinoff is the warm favourite after a near-perfect season-long performance.
The 27-year-old reached new heights across 14 games over the home-and-away and finals series, boasting a league-high average of 30.5 disposals and 6.4 clearances.
For her dominance in the midfield, Marinoff was crowned the best player of the year by AFLW coaches - 12 points clear of runner-up Garner.
North Melbourne star Garner's surprising history of not polling well in the women's equivalent of the Brownlow could come in handy for Marinoff.
Garner's case is also not helped by her teammate Ash Riddell's equal mastery in the midfield.
While she was judged last year as the best league player for the second-successive year by the coaches, Garner finished equal seventh (14 votes) in the league best-and-fairest count.
Riddell, on the other hand, finished equal second with 16 votes.
Following North's 57-point preliminary final win over Port Adelaide, coach Darren Crocker said Garner was long overdue for the award.
"I would have thought that Jasmine would have been rewarded with that already, but we know what an unbelievable player she is," Crocker said.
"I've used the term before she's a generational player, and Ash is pushing up right behind her; they might take votes off each other.
"We've had an outstanding year to go through the season and not drop a game - obviously had the draw against Geelong.
"You would think that would hold them in good stead, having won all those games, but who knows."
Fuelled by the heartbreak of their 17-point loss in last year's grand final, Garner is instead keeping focused on defeating Brisbane in their decider rematch.
The two sides will meet on Saturday at Ikon Park for the first night grand final in both the women's and men's competition.
"I don't take too much notice of it all," Garner said of the award vote.
"I will go, enjoy the night and be on the waters, which will be nice.
"We've got such a good team, midfielders, forwards, Ash Riddell - I think there will be a lot of votes shared, so we will see what happens but I don't expect anything.
"Our team goal was that grand final and I'll be looking forward to that."
