Brisbane's premiership defence has received an early boost after Stuart Dew accepted a full-time coaching role at the Lions.

Former Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew has turned down interest from Port Adelaide and Sydney to become Brisbane's forward-line coach for 2025.

Dew, who coached Gold Coast from 2018 to 2023, joined Brisbane mid-season as a part-time specialist coach.

The two-time premiership player enjoyed his part-time role at the Lions, and was eager to increase his commitment for 2025.

Port Adelaide and Sydney were reportedly keen on luring Dew their way, but the 45-year-old has decided to stay at the Lions as part of their premiership defence.

Dew will take over as Brisbane's forwards coach from departing assistant Murray Davis, who has joined Adelaide as their coaching director.

"To see the way the club's leaders, staff and players have remained connected and committed to each other throughout the ups and downs of their journey was so impressive and ultimately rewarded with the premiership cup," Dew said of Brisbane.

"I am grateful that Chris Fagan and Danny Daly gave me the opportunity to be involved at the halfway mark of the season and to contribute to September action once again.

"It solidified to me again what it takes to achieve the ultimate success - everyone playing their role and backing each other in."

Brisbane's general manager of football Danny Daly said Dew's appointment was a big boost for the club's premiership defence and pursuit of further success.

"We are delighted to have Stuart joining us in a full-time capacity and are excited by what he can help the rest of our coaching staff achieve moving forward," Daly said in a statement.

"Stuart has an impressive resume and brings invaluable experience as both a two-time premiership player and a former senior coach himself.

"Having worked with our club already this season, we see it being a seamless transition and he will be able to hit the ground running when pre-season starts."

The Lions were dealt a blow this week when star spearhead Joe Daniher confirmed his immediate retirement, despite being just 30 and having one more year to run on his contract.
