Sometimes effort goes un-rewarded. That was the case last weekend and it might in the end finalise the Melbourne season hopes.
They were so brave in coming back and then putting a margin on Brisbane at home. It stayed around 4 goals for a long time.
But eventually they were worn down (probably without Petracca hurt badly and that won't change).
But with May and Lever restored, there was a feeling of solidity and sensibility down back. It gave the midfield more confidence and didn't Clayton Oliver love that.
He wasn't at his ultimate best but was far higher on the scale of his ability. Investment in the cause was a real impact on the game.
West Coast won't be able to avoid that at the MCG. They don't get much action there and don't totally enjoy it either.
It was a weak game to bring in as form. Sort of in it at half time, the Hawks put 9 goals to 2 thereafter on them. Few excuses could be made.

A big factor here could be the timing of the game. Not only are the Demons coming off 2 days longer preparation, it will be played at 11.10am Perth time.
You can bet Reid will get a tag (Neal-Bullen maybe) and he'll have to work through it. Can't see his mates giving much. Melbourne might have some mojo back.
