LIV Golf switches dates for Adelaide tournament

3 minute read

Next year's LIV Golf tournament in Adelaide will be held from February 14-16, switching from the April timing of the initial two events in South Australia.

LIV Golf's Adelaide tournament pumped more than $70 million into the South Australian economy as organisers announce a date switch for next year's event.

LIV's Adelaide tournament will be held from February 14-16 next year, after being staged on April 26-28 this year.

The Adelaide event, again at The Grange golf course, will be the second tournament on next year's LIV calendar, following the season opener in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh from February 6-8.

"As an Aussie, I'm proud of how South Australia has embraced LIV Golf to make it one of the top sporting events in the country," LIV Golf's commissioner and chief executive Greg Norman said in a statement on Wednesday.

"Over the past two years, Adelaide has showcased what our league can deliver: a destination event with passionate crowds where world-class team competition, entertainment and culture take centre stage.

"It's been the highlight tournament on our calendar for players and fans alike."

Some 94,327 spectators attended this year's LIV tournament in Adelaide, up 22 per cent from the inaugural event at The Grange on April 21-23 last year.

An economic impact report, prepared by Vision Insights, stated the tournament resulted in $71.1 million in direct expenditure in South Australia.

Of this year's crowd, 41 per cent were from outside of South Australia.
