Ajax central defender Jurrien Timber has admitted he could leave the Dutch club this summer, amid links to Manchester United.

The 21-year-old was on the radar of Erik ten Hag last summer when the Dutchman arrived at Old Trafford.

United though moved for Timber's Ajax team-mate Lisandro Martinez, paying £56.7m for the Argentina star. And such has been Martinez's impact at United, they could be poised to go back in for 21-year-old Timber.

Man Utd are in the market for defensive recruits and they are one of the favourites to sign Timber. And what is more Timber has admitted that he could be on the move this summer.

Speaking to Ziggo Sport's Kick 't Met, Timber said: "It's the same situation for me as last season.

"When I say I'm leaving, it has to fit. Important is playing style, playing minutes… Competing for prizes is also important. My favourite country? I dare not say.

"That's why I'm doing the same as last season. The chance is there, it can happen, but I'm also comfortable here. I'm still young and here everything also suits me. I'm going to watch quietly."

Timber has played almost every minute of Ajax's Eredivisie gamest this season, helping them to 10 clean sheets, as well as scoring two goals.

He was called up to the Netherlands national team in 2021 and has already made 15 appearances.

Given Timber's previous relationship with Ten Hag, it's no surprise the Dutch boss keen on him. But United will have to fork out around £44m to land him.
