Borussia Dortmund are one win away from ending Bayern Munich's 10-year reign as Bundesliga champions.
Dortmund defeated Augsburg 3-0 away from home on Sunday to set up a final-day shoot out.
Bayern Munich's loss to Leipzig on Saturday opened the door for Dortmund and they seized their opportunity, moving within three points of ending the Bavarian club's 10-year reign as German champions.
Sebastian Haller – who missed the first half of the season as he battled cancer – scored twice and Julian Brandt once after Felix Uduokhai had been sent off for Augsburg.
"If someone had told me six months ago that I'd be in this situation today, I wouldn't have believed it," Haller told the club's website. "We have all invested a lot and there is now a huge opportunity to achieve something very big.
"We have missed a few opportunities in the past but we've now taken this one. We have spoken a lot about needing to stick to our principles and stay positive. I'm proud of the team."
Dortmund head coach Edin Terzic said: "This year, we're closer than we have been for a long time. Now we need to go full-throttle and then we can finally – hopefully! – hold the Championship Shield in our hands.
"We now need the emotions in the city, in the stadium, and we'll take care of the football. And in such a way that we are present from the start again, play a good game and see it through to the end. Now it's about taking this one step together.
"We've picked up 70 points so far. That couldn't have been foreseen before the season, after the overhaul and in particular after the illnesses and the injuries."
Victory over Mainz on the final day of the campaign next Saturday would see Dortmund clinch their first Bundesliga crown for 11 years, but anything less would open the door for Bayern to win an 11th straight title.
Mainz suffered a 4-1 home defeat to struggling Stuttgart on Saturday despite taking the lead, while Lars Stindl scored a 90th-minute equaliser to earn Borussia Monchengladbach a 2-2 draw with Bayer Leverkusen.
