Wednesday’s Warwick Farm meeting saw several interesting winners that will no doubt feature in tougher races throughout the spring.

The James Cummings-trained Way Too Good kicked off the programme with a much deserved victory in the opening race on the program for maiden three-year-old fillies.

Breaking through in her sixth career outings, Way Too Good settled up on the speed with Glyn Schofield in the saddle and was able to hold off the well fancied Falkenberg over the concluding stages.

Returning a Timeform figure of 87, the daughter of Strategic Maneuver ran up to her peak rating achieved when runner up at Wyong last time out.

Not sure if she has a great deal more improvement to come this campaign, however there are big expectations on second placegetter Falkenberg who is a full sister to Sebring.

Returning a Timeform figure of 86 in only her second outing, the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained runner does not look far away from a win and is likely to have more improvement to come.

The following race saw the Gerald Ryan-trained Flying Achilles take out the colts and Geldings event and will line up in some Stakes races throughout the spring.

Settling around midfield, Flying Achilles produced an outstanding turn of foot to run down the leader Astro Sun over the concluding stages and in the progress ran to a new peak of 90.

Having taken the blinkers off for the first time, the son of Fastnet Rock settled much better on this occasion and improving off his last start third at Newcastle will progress to the Spring Stakes later in the month.

Both Gerald Ryan and jockey Kerrin McEvoy were confident the step up to the mile would suit and the Group 1 Champion Stakes later in the spring was also mentioned as a possible target.

Flying Achilles has returned much better at a three-year-old and although will need to show further improvement to measure up in stakes company is certainly one to keep an eye on going forward.

Montauk was once again disappointing despite not having much luck and has not been able to replicate his second placing behind Sebring Sun in two outings since.

One of the best wins of the day came from the Peter & Paul Snowden-trained Denpurr who took out the Tab Place Multi Benchmark 67 Handicap (1200m).

Having been well held in Group 3 company at the Gold Coast before a spell, the now three-year-old filly scored a narrow win over Ocean Tempest and returned a peak Timeform figure of 94p.

Having run in Group company as a two-year-old the stable obviously has some sort of opinion of the Denman filly and she looks to have some improvement to come.

Ocean Tempest also ran to a peak rating of 91 at just her second career run and off a handy win at Gosford is one to keep an eye on going forward as well.

Later in the program Amelie’s Star grabbed her third win from as many starts, returning a clear career peak rating of 89, well above that achieved when winning at Warwick Farm last start of 85.

Ridden by Kerrin McEvoy, the four-year-old mare streaked clear to win by an impressive 8L, handling the step up to 2400m for the first time.

The daughter of Testa Rossa could progress to some lower staying Stakes races during the spring but will need to improve again off this victory to be competitive.

Amelie’s Star has improved in all five runs this campaign and having had just the seven outings to date could have more to come.

The last race of the day saw the old marvel Floral Insight get the better of Quartzite over the concluding stages.

In what was his 20th career win from 90 starts, the eight-year-old gelding ran up to a figure of 103 his highest since running second at Kempsey with 62kg five starts back.

Second placegetter Quartzite was brave in defeat and returned a peak career figure of 100.

The Bjorn Baker-trained runner is only lightly raced for a five-year-old having won five of his 11 career outings.
