Esperance racecourse is 715km south east of Perth on the Western Australia coastline and is the home of the Esperance Bay Turf Club. Esperance is renowned for its beaches fronting the Great Southern Ocean with the Esperance Bay Turf Club known as a place where the surf meets the turf. Racing has been a part of the Esperance community for more than 100 years, being conducted at various locations before the current racecourse near Bandy Creek, 6km from the town centre, was opened in 1984. Esperance Bay Turf Club conducts 10 race meetings annually during a summer racing season that runs from November to March, culminating with the running of the Esperance Cup.

Esperance racecourse is a big turf track of 1900m circumference with a long home straight of 406 metres. A long back straight starting chute provides for races up to 1600 metres and provides a straight of 700 metres to the first turn. Another chute at the top of the home straight provides for races over 2400  metres. Esperance racecourse’s spacious oval shape with its long straights is one of the best layouts in Western Australia and gives all horses a fair chance from most starts. The course proper is supplemented by an inner turf training track.
