Have to pinch yourself?: “No doubt. I will tomorrow. I don’t want to pinch myself and disturb today just in case. To think you can even aim up for something like this and for this horse to keep doing what he’s doing, it’s just sensational.”

On the horse:  “He thinks he is (a super star). He gets around the stables like that. He’s in a terrific place, he’s enjoying it as much as we are. The horse is absolutely thriving and he’s loved every moment of this preparation and it’s just super to get that job done.”

On the prep: “Everything made it a little bit hard, for none of us to go with him if we sent him to Melbourne, or to turn up at Moonee Valley and have a go at a Cox Plate when you’ve never seen Moonee Valley. The option for him to stay here, no questions, was easy. Stay here in your backyard, the horse is thriving, there’s no need to interrupt anything.”

On his career: “From the day he walked in, we always knew we had a good horse. But you don’t know how good. We kept going and we kept thinking, ‘we haven’t got to the bottom of him yet’. He was pretty casual in his work, he’d only just do enough. It’s not as if he goes out there and runs time and you think, we’ve got a freak. He’s just been one that has been a building process every preparation. He’s come back stronger and more mature mentally and I think all those things are what’s showing now and he’s just really enjoying his racing.”

Happy when placed in Gong: “That was the start of it. That was brilliant. We were on at 40s that day, that was a nice start.”

Where to next?: “I think we’ll just get over today. There is an option if he went to Melbourne for the Mackinnon next Saturday but we’ll just see what that takes out of him.”

On his involvement with the horse: “It’s exciting to be involved with such a great group of people and such a champion horse. He continues to turn up every week and has gradually raised the bar. You don’t see much better than what he did just then. You’ve got to pinch yourself to think of what he might do in the Autumn. I’ll just enjoy it while I can.”

Kerry Parker’s handling of the horse: “I was lucky to get the ride, I really chased hard. He was going down to Melbourne. Brenton (Avdulla) got the ride after he trialled him - I’ll throw out a bone to Brenton who’s probably watching at home. Sometimes luck changes and I’ve had plenty this Spring. Yes, Kerry’s done an amazing job with this horse.”
