Winning Time: 1:15.16 Last 600m: 33.45
Margins: 1¼L x 2½L
Winning Trainer: Joe Pride
On the win: “He just had control and when he’s got control he’s just so hard to beat. It was a little dip down in grade for him today and I didn’t underestimate that when I made my decision about bringing him here.”
On the race: “He’s got such a great record here at Rosehill and unfortunately there’s not many races here for him. He won’t be back for The Galaxy in the autumn because he’ll get too much weight but he absolutely loves this place, and Nash.”
On the horse: “He’s a special horse, isn’t he? He’s been an amazing what he’s been able to do over the last year-and-a-half or so. It’s just really special for my family, for the stable. I’m just really proud to be his trainer. He’s fast isn’t he and just showing that speed, he really runs his opposition into the ground. I was pretty confident coming to the corner. He was probably a touch soft late but it is 1300 metres. He loves this place, Rosehill, he really loves it.”
“Änd if (race caller) Darren Flindell is listening, the veteran Darren. Really? Come on. He only turned eight today, he was seven the other day and he still calls him the veteran. All jokes aside, fantastic win and he’ll go to the paddock now and we’ll see him again in the autumn. I think he will probably resume in the Lightning (Stakes).”
On the future: “There are two seasons left in this horse, I can guarantee you. He’s got joints and knees as good as any horse in my stable. There is life in him and he’ll be around for a while yet. I think he might be a horse who, later in life, actually starts breaking a few records for the age of winning feature races. He’s an amazing horse, so good to train and so good to look after.”
Haven’t had the horse that long but: “We’re making the most of it. How often do you turn up at work and you’ve got an earning capacity like this? It’s not lost on me. I don’t take it for granted. I’m very fortunate and I owe a lot to a lot of people.”
Winning Jockey: Nash Rawiller
On back-to-back wins: Think It Over/Eduardo: “I can’t split them, it’s sort of like trying to split your kids. I’m amazed at how well today has come together. Both horses have been beautifully prepared with big pots at the end of the rainbow. It’s very exciting that it’s all come off, and we’ve still got the biggest race to come. For me personally to win on my two favourite horses it’s been outstanding.”
Why Eduardo is special: “He’s not that big. He walks out against Nature Strip and actually thinks he’s bigger. He’s just a really confident dude. The girl that rides him in work has done an amazing job because he was a handful in the early days; he nearly dumped me a few times in my first few wins on him. But now he’s full of confidence and a real racehorse.”
On the way the race was run: “He can really run sectionals, and that was just a canter to him. He’s fast; if they try to go with him they can’t match him and they are working overtime. He just floats on that cruising speed and it’s a fine line trying to get it right. He’s been enormous both times I’ve ridden him here in the bigger races; in the Galaxy and today nothing would have beaten him.”
Beaten Jockeys:
Tommy Berry (Masked Crusader): “Just had enough.”
Jason Collett (Gytrash): “Played up in the barriers. After that made no impression.”
Jim Byrne (Trekking): “Just failed to let down.”
Jean Van Overmeire (Kementari): “Was a nice run. He’s going really well.”
Andrew Adkins (I Am Superman): “Good run. Completely luckless.”
Glyn Schofield (Imaging): “Went too quick for me.”
James Innes (Standout): “He had favours, nice gate, good tempo. Relaxed well. Thought he went terrific.
Josh Parr (Big Parade): “Terrific effort.”
Brodie Loy (Signore Fox): “Lovely run. Got a beautiful run from the gate. Would have liked them to go a bit quicker.”
Tim Clark (Dawn Passage): “Ran well considering the run he had.”
Hugh Bowman (Lost And Running): “I think he’s gone better today than he did in The Everest. It’s all ahead of him.”
Alysha Collett (Edit): “He ran a really nice 8th.”
Robbie Dolan (Libertini): “She had a nice run. She just didn’t let down like she can.”
