On the horse: “He’s a lovely boy. He’s won nine races for us now and he’s just been a really good bread and butter staying horse in the country. I thought they might be a bit too good for him today.”

On the win: “We had to take the claim to get a bit of weight off his back because he just doesn’t carry that 57, 58. He labours. When he’s down at the 55, 56 he’s really got a turn of foot.”

On the stamina test: “It was. The pace was on and that really suits him. When they stop at home, in the staying races they tend to pull up mid-race, he tends to over-race and he doesn’t finish off. Today, they really hooked along at a good pace and it just suited him.”

On the race: “A big thank you to Racing NSW for putting these races on and for supporting country racing. There are a lot of people who own horses in the country that just have a fabulous time doing it. We’ve got a lot of owners here today and they’re having a great day.”

“That just made it a bit better. They’re long-time owners, they’ve been owners for six and seven years and are good supporters, people with a small share in a horse that just enjoy racing.”

On riding the winner: “I’ve got a lot of people to thank but first and foremost well done to Ms Hardy and the team back at home, the horse just looked a treat in the yard.”

On the win: “It was an open field today and I really felt like everyone had a chance to win, he just felt super going to the gates and relaxed really nicely for me. I was just lucky enough to get the splits at the top of the straight and he was too strong for them.”

On the horse: “He probably should have won a few more races to this point but he’s been in races that just haven’t suited him. The tempo was really strong today which suited us, he relaxed beautiful in behind them and when he’s able to travel like that, he can reserve his energy and work strong to the line.”

“I’m from Warrnambool apprentice to my Dad, Peter Lafferty, thanks to my manager Liam Prior he prompted me to come up to Sydney and join John O’Shea on a three month loan and if it keeps going like this I’ll be very happy.”

On winning: “It’s been a really hard six months but as Jenny Duggan said the other day you’ve just to keep one foot in front of the other and eventually it happens in the end.”
