“To be truthful, she has been a bit disappointing (lately). She shows a lot at home and hasn’t really lived up to it. But we changed a couple of things around. Number one was bringing her back in distance.
“The other day when she ran in the mile race here she travelled up so easily. Around the turn, had a similar sort of run and never really finished off the last 200 metres. I thought, ‘oh, we’re missing something here’. Going abc through her pedigree her ideal race is 1400 (metres) and dropping her rating back to a 70-rated race where she’s been running in 78s. It made a big difference and Nash roder her fantastic.”
What’s next: “She’s been in work for some time. We might give her a rest. Our patience was wearing a little bit thin but we weren’t getting the results. I thought that she presented really well today after I upped her work a little bit. I thought I might have been too soft on her and I think that’s the trick. She’s such a good doer in the stable and it’s good to see her put in a run like that today.”
Winning Jockey: Nash Rawiller
“She was good today. Obviously a filly that lacked a bit of confidence and probably the winkers going on is the main key. Today I just tried to keep the bit in her mouth and just before the corner I was in a spot that I didn’t want to be in yet but I had to go and she was feeling like she was going to just come out of it a bit but she showed a great turn-of-foot.
“She’s run the seven (furlongs, 1400m) out so she’ll probably get a mile. That’ll hold her in very good stead.”
Next race for Nash - getting to the airport to QLD now: “Looking forward to the next couple of weeks up there. There’s some nice horses and good races. Hopefully a pot of gold at the end of it and I’ll chase some of that.
“I plan to come back and then head back to Sydney towards the middle of February but the beauty of it at the moment is that I can play it by ear and see what happens with COVID. But I’m in a happy place at the moment.”
