“Speaking to Mr Alexander before the race, it has been getting quite far back in it’s races and tends to keep running a good fourth or fifth, but today the idea was to land a lot closer but there was a bit more speed than there was on paper. I was just caught three-deep without cover but all racing pretty tight.
“El Guerrouj got going pretty early so I had the cart around the bend. The horse was due for a win today and it’s great that I could get the result for the team and the connections.”
Being three-wide: “I just had to cop it. I didn’t want to drag the horse around too much. The horse was too good on it’s day today. I had to cover the ground but it was what it was.”
Can he get further: “I think he’ll take a lot of improvement out of the run today. He’s run the trip in strong races and I think it really suits the horse. Probably got to the front a bit early but he did a tough job to keep the margin and he’ll take a lot more improvement out of today.”
