Winning Trainer: Pat Carey

“It all went well and credit to Pat Moloney. He’s riding with a lot of confidence and I think he deserves a good pat on the back for the way he’s going at the moment.

“I had a chat to Steve Watkins who owns and bred the horse and we just felt that he’s not a big horse and getting him down in the weight in a probably slightly higher rated race might be the way to go to give him his best opportunity to go forward and with a good ride today he was able to hold on and win.”

Good association with Moloneys: “Yeah, I saw Patrick running around in nappies. Gerard is one of my mates and his late father, Jim, was a very close mate of mine. We know them very well.”

What’s next: “This horse can handle a range of tracks down to slow. He’s won by probably a neck or half-length today. He just wants to be picked through the grades over a period of time.

“He’s a lightly races four-year-old. Don’t have to be too ambitious with good stake money around. Mind you, I did win this race about 10 years ago - maybe even more - and it was worth $100,000 so I think Geelong need to have a look at that.

“Rhys McLeod rides him a lot and Rhys is always of the opinion that he can get seven furlongs and I vale Rhys’ judgement. He’s right more often that wrong. We’ll see.”

Winning Jockey: Pat Moloney

“We came here with plan to be quite positive out of the barriers. We were afforded an even barrier and he didn’t begin brilliantly but he was quick to muster.

“We got in a lovely trailing position behind Leiter and he carted me up in the race. I rode him like the best horse in the race, basically, and he was too good for them.

“Rhys, at Bendigo on Saturday, he said to me that I’d want to give Pat a call and try and get on this horse. He’d run enormous last start and said that he couldn’t do the weight and I could.

“Cheers to him for kicking up for me and I gave Pat a call and Mr Watkins, who is the owner, he’s alway supported me and they backed me in. I was able to get the job done for them.”
