“When he was a bit slow out of the gates I thought he’ll be right but when Yulong Command skipped away on the corner I thought ‘oh it’s a big task’.

“I was hoping the leader was going to slow down but he has got a good turn-of-foot and the five weeks between runs he knows what he’s doing now. We originally bought him secondhand. We didn’t pay much for him.

“He’s always shown the previous stables a lot and even though he’s had the throat operation he’s always shown plenty.”

How cheap was the buy: “Very.”

What’s next: “Because we train him down the beach we can space his runs out. We’ve given him a week off after his last race and we’ll keep him ticking over. He’s a very relaxed horse. He doesn’t stress out very much.”

On the run: “He let down very well. I didn’t know if I would catch the leader but he dug deep and it was a super win.

“I think he can be a great money spinner (for the family). I used to ride him as a two-year-old at Ciaron Maher’s (stable) and I knew he had quite a lot of ability. He just hasn’t go the best wind, so when we got him for a very light price it was great and it was so good to see him come out and perform so much.”
