“I won really well at Warrnambool then the last start he didn’t quite run the trip and overraced. Richie (Laming) has done a good job and found the right race today. Chucked the norton bit on and was able to rate him in front how I pleased.

“Getting down the hill I was very confident as I had a lapful of horse. I tried to pinch two lengths then balanced up and went again. He was really tough to the line.

“I went out with an open mind. If they went quick out in front I was going to sit in behind them but he just cruised along, got to the front really easily and I was able to get away with it on my own.

“Great thrill to ride a winner for Richie. He had a bit of bad lucky yesterday at Swan Hill with his horse falling at the top of the straight so it is good for him to get a winner.”

Could the horse head to Flemington: “Definitely. He’s obviously good enough to win these races and there’s plenty of wet tracks coming up.”
