“The first time around he gave that last jump a bit of a whack, but that’s the beauty of these hurdles. They’ve improved statistics in Europe, they race over them all the time. Sandy McGregor brought them out here and full credit to him.
“A horse can make a mistake and get away with it and still go on and win the race. Great job by Steve and the team at Australian Bloodstock. He’s a quality horse, this horse, and he hadn’t won for a while and sort of put the writing on the wall on the flat last start so he came down here and had a couple of hurdle trials and really enjoyed himself doing that. It sort of invigorated him into the last start on the flat and he’s only going to benefit from that in all ways.”
Double already: “It’s nice. There’s always a bit of pressure (coming into a carnival) especially off Col (McKenna). I’ve been to some carnivals where I haven’t trained a winner for him and there were a few expletives then. This time we’ve started the right way.”
Winning Jockey: Steven Pateman
“He didn’t really like the fallen down panel. He’s got a lot of improvement in him. Probably (had) a soft trial coming into this today but he was too good.
“I think, and none of you will believe me, but I think there’s ten lengths improvement in him. He’s a beautiful horse and he’s had two soft trials spaced away from each other and he ran on the flat the other day so I felt like that was a bit of (like a) trial.
“When you see him next time he’ll be a whole lot better.”
