“Last time she was just caught in a really awkward spot and Teo (Nugent) had to make the quick decision whether to go forward or back. Just being first-up over a mile last times she was probably a bit gassed early.
“With Michael today I just said to sit nice and quietly wherever she is where she’s happy. I said she’ll just really continue to run on and she’s a really tough filly and she’ll run the mile out strongly.
“As long as you don’t give up on her she’ll keep coming.
“Loves the ground. She won her maiden on a Heavy 9 so I knew the cut in the ground wouldn’t be a problem.”
What’s next: “I’ve been eyeing off a few of the 2000 metres races coming up here at Flemington coming up over June so we’ll head for some of those.”
Winning Jockey: Michael Poy
“I’ve got to say a big thanks to Wendy and Kev Kelly. They were big supporters of me as an apprentice in the bush and to be able to get on one of their horses and get a win for them, they’ve done a lot for my career.
“They ran along pretty hot early. I got a nice trail off the speed. I thought I was gone about 600 (metres) from home but the horse kept improving and kept picking itself up. The last 100 metres - not dominant - but impressive.”
2000 metres: “I think no doubt. Two starts back she ran fourth so no problems going out to it.”
