“It was good that she was able to take a sit. I thought there was good speed in the race. There were horses jumping up from shorter races and Dance To Dubai rolled forward with apprentices on them we know that it’d be a solidly run race.
“It was a good opportunity in a small field to just get her back, get her relaxed and switch off and give her a chance to have the last shot at them. Well ridden by Jordan, we had a good talk about it this morning, about tactics, and he was of the same opinion that it was an opportunity to do this with this girl so it’s great to win a Saturday race with her .
“I’m sure that she’s going to come into her own as she gets a bit older. She’s very lightly raced and a very good job by the staff at the Caulfield stable. They’ve done a great job with her preparing her for today’s race and it’s great to get a win.”
What’s next: “It’s going to get harder from hereon in with stakes races coming on, but we’ll back off her. A month between runs she’s done a good job. We give her a tick over jump out in between, spend some time at the beach. She really benefited from having a change of environment so it all goes good going forward because you can swap things around with her.”
Winning Jockey: Jordan Childs
“Discussed with Grahame and James Winks and we thought that this would be a good opportunity to ride her a bit differently in a small field and be nice and conservative early. She relaxed well and was able to have a restful run into the race. Once presented she chased hard.
“She’s always given me the feel that she’ll be a better horse chasing. She’s a very good barrier horse. She jumps and puts herself there. Drawing the outside today I was able to take my time and bring her back. Just do it nice and smooth.
“Grahame has been a big supporter of mine. I ride a lot of work for him and know the horses really well. It’s good to be getting some nice results.”
On the track: “It’s actually amazing to have had a heap of rain but I think it’s going to race well throughout the day.”
** From yesterday - Shane Nichols on Streets Of Avalon: Came through the Australia Stakes “excellent” and they’re not going to wait for later in the month. Instead will start in the Orr Stakes next Saturday.
