Winning Trainer: Glenn Stevenson

“It is a great thrill, great for the stable. All the girls and the staff at home.  This horse has always shown a bit for us and we took the punt and we’re pretty rapt about it.”

On the run: “Damo (Thornton) spoke to me earlier in the week. With the tempo, if he got the ‘suck run’ then he’s got a turn-of-foot. He always has a go, this horse. You could run him next week and he’ll still improve. He’s the toughest horse I’ve had.“

Picking this race: “We picked it out because he’s out of (above) the ratings in Tassie so we thought we’d give it a go here in a three-year-old race at The Valley, which is a bit like Mowbray, so that’s what we did.”

“Our three-year-olds (in Tasmania,) and two-year-olds, they’re not bad. We go alright.”

<Indicated that there could be another run in Melbourne>

“I just want to (thank) Matty (Matthew) Brown. We got stuck in traffic today and everything started to turn to ‘poo’, and good on you Matty.

The win means a lot: “It does. I’ve come over here a few times, and Adelaide, you run a place a few times but it was good to get this one off the back.”

Winning Jockey: Damien Thornton

“It was a really good win, to be fair. It was a decent field tonight. He was winning and winning well in Tassie and you can never underestimate their horses that come across. They’ve always had a knack for being competitive and pinching our races. He was able to do that tonight.

“He jumped ok. I gave him a rub just to make sure he was there. He’s quite an awkward going bugger but once he found a rhythm he was right then. It was just a matter of when the gap appeared, if it appeared, and I was lucky that it came.

“He sprinted pretty quick and put them away. He was soft enough on the line to say that if something had come at us late then he would have found again.”

Thrill for Glenn: “He said he’s run second a couple of times here. He said when he legged me on, ‘do something, will ya, I need a winner in Melbourne’. So I got him one.”
