1400m in ‘sweet spot’: “Absolutely. He just does his thing, doesn’t he. That came around there and he (Oliver) was sitting on him and sitting on him, and Damien was holding him together and kept him comfortable and when he asked for the supreme effort he found it and went to the line nicely.”
What’s next: “I don’t know (laughs). Do we try a better race? I’ll ask Damien. If he’s worthy of then, he probably is, he’s only two runs in. He will like a mile, I think, and we’d look forward to trying. He’s in great shape, going well.”
Imperial Lad earlier in the day: “Has come through it well. That was a second faster than the other 1300 metres races run today so I was pretty happy with that effort. He did it up the front and kept it going.”
Winning Jockey: Damien Oliver
“He’s big free going, bold striding sort of galloper and it was the perfect race for him today. Really well-placed by Johnny. He’s well suited in these types of races at this time of year and I think he can continue on his way.”
“I thought I kicked a little bit away from them but halfway up the straight I felt them coming. I know this horse will stick on for me and he can maintain a gallop. They would have had to have been going well to pick him up.”
On going up to a mile: “No problem.”
