On not making the trip: “I’m no good at the races, so I just let him go down with Megan, the Irish lass that looks after him for us.”

On winning first stakes race: “It’s ridiculous, very very good. I was sitting on the couch screaming with my wife and the young fella. There was plenty of screaming.”

What’s next: “We’ll see how he pulls up. I see it was upgraded to a Good 3. He’ll pull up fine that way, but racing on a firmer track just knocks him around a bit more in that he doesn’t eat too well. We’ll see how he is and make a plan in a few days once the dust settles.”

On winning a stakes race for Richard Cully aboard Pintoff: “It is special. I am absolutely delighted for Richard (Cully) and his team. They do a fantastic job and it is actually my first winner for them so it wasn’t a bad way to get the first one up.”

Thoughts in run: “He had to be tough. He jumped clean enough and it mapped like a light lead but Froggy (Craig Newitt - Free To Move) sort of came with me early so I was happy to come back and sit outside him. My fella was a touch keen through the first 400m so I just let him roll up along the top and it was only when I got to the front he came back and relaxed. From that point I was quite happy, I loved the way he just really extended off the bend so I knew at that point they were going to have to work to get to me. He was getting a little tired late but he had done enough, he was tough.”
