Winning Trainer: Sean & Jake Casey (Jake speaking)

“A win is a win so we’re pretty happy with that. We were scratching our heads a bit with him last start. There wasn’t a lot wrong with him, just a couple of small excuses that he had that we attended to. But we got him back here today at his best.

“When he had a good run last start he went a bit ordinary but it seems the harder it is for him the better he goes. Pretty happy with him.”

Winning Jockey: William Pike

Six years since he has ridden for this WA stable: “We try and keep it boutique. Just jump on every now and then and keep the strike rate up.

“Jake and his girlfriend, Bonnie, have done a great job bringing him across like this. It is probably  their first time doing so. It is a great effort to tick along like this.

Did the wind impact the result: “No, I didn’t notice it and I don’t think it had any difference on the result. We’re not weather bureauists (sic), we’re jockeys we keep it simple.

Om the run: “I was always planning on riding him more conservatively. I was hoping to find a three-wide line and be a little closer than that but that’s not how it panned out. Haven’t ridden him very often but my quick observation was that the blinkers were sending him a bit over-the-top. They probably worked for him when he was younger. They were probably doing too much for him.

“The winkers went on because he’s not a horse you can trust too much so we weren’t game to take everything off. Just coming from back and being able to run onto them, I think he enjoyed that.”
