“It’s nice to give these apprentices a chance. He’s come over from Adelaide and he’s been riding really well. As I said to him, just to get on the rail. There seems to be a bit of a speed line there. I said from barrier 15 to get back and find a spot on the rail.”

<Didn’t have much to say about Ben Price - only just met him this morning>

Winning Jockey: Ben Price

“He probably wasn’t my greatest ride for the day. I probably came here more for the ride before, but things didn’t quite go right.

“I don’t know how the gap opened but it did for us at the top of the straight. I thought he was going to put them away by a couple but he put up his head and waited for them, but I’m very happy.

“We were not sure whether to go forward or back and we were going to see how he jumped but I was happy enough to dart across to the fence and I found it. He’s a bit of a funny horse to ride. He gets his head up very high and you just have to go with it.”

Career win 28 and first winner at the carnival: “It’s awesome.”
