Winning Trainer: Lindsey Smith (rep by Shane Jackson)
“He’s a beauty this horse. The old picket fence keeps getting a bit longer. Seven in-a-row is a good achievement by Lindsey and all the staff at home.
“Lindsey always makes a great plan with these horses and he doesn’t go to the well too many time. He won last start and he pulled up great but he said (to) just give him a little break, come back and the better races are at this time of year, so see where he goes from today.”
Black type: “He definitely has earned (a shot) but after today he’s still only going to be a low to mid 90’s rated horse so maybe Lindsey has a grander plan but maybe he’s still capable of another win in handicap company before he goes to that.”
Winning Jockey: Declan Bates
Little fist pump after the race: “Normally I’m quite reserved but how do you not get excited about a horse that is winning seven in a row. He’s just an absolute pleasure to ride and he keeps delivering.”
Doing it at both ends: “He jumped OK but not quite as well as the other two that might lead and I had to give him a little nudge just to make sure I was going to lead, or make them work to lead, but I don’t think I had to work as hard as it looked.
“They accepted pretty quick they were going to take a sit and from there I was always quite happy. He had a little breather down the side and I thought he came back underneath me. Even though we were rolling along I felt him relax midrace and into the bend I was happy to let him roll.
“I felt the ground was marginally better off the rails, even though there’s not much difference, but when there was no-one sitting outside me I thought I’d roll out to that two or three lane and that is might help a bit.”
Is he stakes grade: “Who knows. He just keeps delivering and he never goes out and blows the field away. I thought he actually at the 50 (metres) clocked off, he was more waiting on them than anything, so I don’t actually know how far he can go. I’ll just enjoy it for the moment.”
