On Tamarack’s time with the stable: “I bought him probably nearly 12 months ago and we started schooling him. He should have been ready a bit earlier but he hit the inside of a leg and developed a splint and needed time for that to settle down which it did.

“He’s come back now and that is only his second start over them. He had the right flat form, he just lost interest on the flat.

“You never know with these horses, once you start schooling them they get a rejuvenated career a lot of the time and he’s come back really well.”

Pre race thoughts: “I was expecting him to go well, I thought he could run in the first three but you’re never sure. It is only his second run over them (jumps). Darryl (Horner) has given him a great ride, the two horses who I thought would be hard to beat were the first and second favourite. They’ve probably been up a while and we’re probably the fresh horse on the scene.”

Future plans: “We’ll have a think about it. He’ll probably have one or maybe two more runs in him and I think that will be him done for the season.”

Winning Jockey: Darryl Horner Jr

Impressive: “Definitely. He trialled up good. He had a good run at Sale. He’s a horse that makes you work for your riding fee. He never travelled for a stride. He jumped good. The further he goes, the better he’ll get and it is another stroke of genius from ‘Mussie”, he’s pulled out another one.”

Chasing the favourites: “I was following the horse to beat, Mawaany Machine. I wanted to get to the outside of the track as the inside is a bit chopped out, but I elected to save a bit of ground around the corner and then come to the outside. He’s won good in the end. He stargazed a little in the last furlong but he knows how to win races and he got it done.”

Knows where winning post is: “He’s a good flat galloper. No disrespect to the second horse but, he’s a better horse the winner.”

Steeplechasing: “I think he will.He’s got good scope. Eric will probably stick to the hurdles this time around but he’ll probably be chasing in the future.”
