“She’s been trialling up a storm and she started off the prep with a bit of a niggle and an infection in the leg and it has taken time to get her back. SHe’s come back in great order.

“I thought she’d run really well (today). Dollar For Dollar and Native Soldier are all very nice sprinters and she was close enough to them. Normally she gets too far back in big fields and that's the way she needs to be ridden, back and then forward, and it seemed to work out perfectly.”

What’s next: “With the early setback we’ll just have to play it by ear. In two weeks there’s plenty of races in Sydney. Brisbane is also an option. Hopefully we can keep winning.”

Wasted for the ride: “I didn’t really want to ride light today but I looked up her jump out and thought she could win off it so a bit of torture last night and this morning was worth it.”

On the run: “I was pretty confident today and I was happy to leave her be early and think she’d be too good late. It doesn’t always play out that way but coming to the bend (I was) looking like I had them covered and I was getting there a bit soon but I didn’t want to stop the momentum and she won with something in hand.

“I think she’s got some black type in her this preparation, for sure. She looks really good this campaign, they put the blinkers on early and she’s going really well.”
