Winning Trainer: Michael, Wayne & John Hawkes (Wayne speaking)

On the win: “I thought it was a good run - for those that owned him and  backed him last start he’s still trying to get out in Sydney, he was an absolute moral beaten . He didn’t show a lot of early pace today, sat and waited and hit the line strong at the end and got the job done. His form has been pretty good, we thought we’d go to Adelaide and sneak a little stakes race and bumped into Mac ‘N’ Cheese so the form looks pretty good.

On the horse: $425,000 yearling: “He’s the best sort by Winning Rupert you will see, it’s coming up now on two years ago we bought him, how time flies.

On the future: “There’s no reason why he won’t get a bit further, it’s Saturday prize money and I’ll take that any day of the week. With the restricted races now you just go through your classes, there’s no such thing as a carnival horse anymore unless you’ve got Nature Strip or Masked Crusader, Verry Elleegant and those sort of quality horses because the races are with a lot of money these days and owners are just happy to win any time of the year. If he can pick off another one of these then well and good, we might give him a freshen up but I’d be happy to come back in two or three weeks time and repeat the performance - the quality will only get better come the autumn.

Winning Jockey: Jye McNeil

On the run: “It really worked out well when we were able to get out and build momentum. In the early part of the race I thought I was in an awkward position, similar to his run in Sydney but he quickened really well and get us out of trouble.
