Surprise victory: “It was a massive surprise, we weren’t sure he could win at all. Pat (Moloney) came to us this morning and said that he was going to try something different and ride him cold and possibly he has gotten out to the better ground. It bodes well for our other horse who beat it at Wangaratta by six lengths on debut, so fantastic, wrapped for the owner. Sunfall ran well too, just got a bit of traffic in the straight but massive win by the winner.”

“It’s been hard to win a maiden with him. We took him to Wodonga last start and he was beaten six lengths by a stablemate that was on debut. We just tried something different today, up in trip and ridden cold, he was dominant. I wouldn’t say he’s shown us Group class potential, he just keeps improving. When we first got him he was a colt, we gelded him. He wanted to get up on the steel and do things a bit quickly and it has taken a few runs to get him to settle and finish off strongly. It’s opened up a few more avenues for him now.”

Target runs for Sunfall: “I’m sure he can win in Saturday Grade, he’s a nice horse. He might’ve been in inferior ground today, who knows? We will see how it turns out but he’s a lovely horse and he’s gone really well there but yeah a massive win by the winner, it was fantastic.

On riding back: “Having a couple of sits on him, he’s always had to do a lot of work at the other end of the race, having to press forward and lead and hasn’t really been hitting the line. Last start I didn’t ride him, I rode the stablemate that won comprehensively, and he got ridden a little quieter that day and I thought he hit the line the best he’s probably hit. I went to Michael and Mick this morning and I said ‘what do you reckon about riding that horse quiet as I reckon he will have to do too much from that wide draw’. I’ve been doing a bit of work for them now and they were happy to back me in and I’m glad they did, because the horse won quite comprehensively today and he actually surprised me how well he let down. We were hoping for a nice run into the top six, but he surprised us and we may have worked out the way to ride him.”
