“He was a little bit disappointing first-up, we thought but we just put it down to the (Flemington) straight. He has trialled really well in between so we were really confident he could get the job done with a good gate.”
Tricky horse to bring to the races: “He got us first-up last time and then he won second and third-up, so we just put it down to the straight last time.”
“He’s got a high cruising speed and when they hold up and then have to sprint he’s not at his best. When he can float like he did today he kicks on the bend and can usually hold on.”
What’s next: “There’s a mile race in a fortnight at Caulfield is Damian thinks we should go to a mile or we could wait a month and there’s stakes races in Adelaide and Melbourne.”
Winning Jockey: Damian Lane
“Good win. I’ve had a good association with him. I was disappointed with the way he went at Flemington. He’s trialled up really well before that and I really pumped his tyres up before that run and he let me down.
“So, back around a bend today and rolling along at a good speed obviously suited him a lot better.
“I just let him go. He’s a high cruising speed horse and he was just ok late but it is from the 600 (metre mark) to the 200 is where he gets his opponents chasing.”
<Said it is a beautiful surface and wouldn’t be surprised if it is upgraded from a Soft 6 to 5>
