Winning Trainer: Andrew Bobbin

First metro winner: “I was nervous at the half-mile. He was off the bit and I thought he was going to run last.

“Lucky there was genuine pace in the race and Jack Hill didn’t panic. I think he even went straight today. Looking at the ‘head on’ he didn’t hang in at all. It was very encouraging for the future.

“I have to thank ‘Roll The Dice’ for firstly coming to find me because they’d certainly never heard of me when they presented the horse to me - their owners hadn’t. Thanks for the trust there.

“He’s a very quirky horse. Mark Pegus galloped him at Stawell on Tuesday and nearly unloaded him. He said the horse was going very, very well. But the horse ducked in at the gap at the 1300m gap. Lucky he stuck with him. He’s just a head case.

“If he keeps doing this then we’ll stick with him.”

From a career behind the camera to a horse trainer: “It’s been a progression that has been in my head my whole life. Myself and my brother, Grant, we were galloping the horses around the farm as kids.

“Inspired by the Phar Lap movie, you thought that you’d just gallop them full-bore up the hill. That’s how we thought you trained them, of course. Then we did a few different things in life but always wanted to come back and train horses.

“We certainly work hard and I’ve got the right people around me. Fortunate with the support from some good owners.

“There’s 30-odd in work and a handful of pre-trainers. All the horses are second hand at the moment. Going to the races they’ve already hit their ceiling so we’ve been having a bit of luck with those. Obviously this bloke is the best of them. But going forward we’ve got 22 or so yearlings about to turn two so hopefully they can get us here more often than not.”

Winning Jockey: Jack Hill

“He went straighter than what he did when I rode him at Bendigo. He’s got his own little quirks, his own little habits.

“I was a little bit worried at the 600 (metre mark) and that it could look very ugly. I really had to rip him around to get him to come around to stop hanging so bad. Once I gave him a couple with the left, he straightened up and really powered through the line.

“The Bobbin team are doing a really good job with their team and I love riding winners for them.

“That’s only my second or third ride for Roll The Dice and my second winner for them.”

Pakenham-Caulfield winning double today: “My old man always tells me that hard work gets reward and I told him I was struggling to see where that was at one stage but head down and arse up and things are starting to pay off.

“Things are going along good. I don’t like to say how good but things are ticking along.”
