“Disappointing last start on Oaks Day. I thought the horse was horribly unlucky. In fact he was a tragedy beaten, really.
“Just nice that he’s come out with a clear run. He’s been so unlucky, this horse.
“That’s no surprise. He was going through the grades nicely and looked great today. We were just worried a bit deep into the prep but he showed his qualities.
“We had no luck at Geelong and we had no luck at Flemington. You can’t keep going that way. I think our last five or six runners in metropolitan races have run second. It’s got to give at some stage.
“Big credit to the team. Great result for Mr Yu, he’s a great backer of the stable and he really deserves it. He’s been in the industry for a long time so it’s great to have city success.”
Tough time for the stable: “We’re just doing what we do best and that other still will take care of itself. No issue for us. We’ve consistently been doing a great job and Pete has been doing a great job for a long time. At the end of the day we’ll keep training winners and training good horses for good people.”
Winning Jockey: Jye McNeil
“Everything went to plan nicely today. It was a smoothly run race. He hasn’t had much luck at his last couple (of starts and) probably should have won both of them.
“It seems that he’s a low rated horse with a bright future and Pete and the team have really worked out his training and I’m gelling with him on race day. It’s great to be able to ride winners for them.
“I actually did (press the button) too early. He was starting to empty out too late. He just quickened down so smoothly so easily that they caught me by surprise but luckily enough he had that winning margin and it didn’t matter.”
