Winning Trainer: Nick Ryan
“I think ‘relief’ is a good word. Very, very dominant win. Just spare a thought for Rhys McLeod. I know I sprang it on him midweek to ride 56 (kilos) today but he couldn’t make it. Rhys has done a lot of work on this horse that is the making of him. He’s really coming to hand and as I’ve been saying he’s slow maturing and that was a good win again.
“I wanted to see him parade in the mounting yard like he did and that was the best I’ve seen him. I think the best is yet to come, he’s getting better and better and he’s an exciting young horse.”
Future: “Beyond here we’ve had a brief look but not sure. We might be able to sit down now and freshen him up and come up with a few options. The horse is going in the right direction and it’s very exciting for the owners and everyone involved.”
On the name and being a gelding: “You’ll have to ask the boys. It tricks a few, it tricks most but he’s certainly gelding.”
Winning Jockey: Luke Currie
“Through the run he was lovely and relaxed. It was just a matter of when to press the button on the corner. I was a bit mindful that Mystery Shot was going to be coming off our back and chasing us down.
“Didn’t want to get there too early. He was going so easy. He put them away pretty quickly.”
Better than BM84: “He’s got better wins in store for him and he looks like his racing manners seem to be improving. He has wanted to hang in a bit a couple of times and roll around. But with the blinkers on and Nick does such a good job with him, he looked so good in the yard today. I think he’ll get better for sure.”
On the track: “It’s really good. I heard them say they’ve put some water on it this morning and taken the edge off of it. I thought it raced really well.”
