Winning Trainer: Ciaron Maher & Dave Eustace (rep by Declan Maher)

Five winners for the stable: “Hasn’t set in yet and probably won’t for a little while, but we couldn’t be prouder of everybody. The hard work they put in it is just unbelievable.

“Day in, day out everybody is there. You ask them to do something, they just go and do it. Just a super team.”

“I must also thanks Luke and Jamie again from Australian Bloodstock. This horse has had a fantastic prep, He’s just improving all the time and it is only his first season. He’s only going to get better and better.

“Great ride by Steve again, which we’ve become accustomed. Very proud.”

On Eyes Are Blue: “I’m rapt. Made the decision to roll forward on him today. He’s not the fastest animal out there but as Aaron just said, he gave him an absolute peach of a ride. He kept finding.”

Winning Jockey: Steven Pateman

That was super impressive: “I’ve always wanted to ride him over fences. He’s got a lot of scope. He was beautiful today. He got a bit of a knock on the leg from The Dominator at the third last so he’d had enough over the last two, but he deserves the win and got home.

“What an amazing achievement from Dec and Ciaron and Dave. I’m so proud of what they have done for the sport and Ciaron being an ex-jumps jockey makes it all the better. To be where he is now on the global racing stage, an ex-jumps jockey from Winslow, it’s amazing.”

“I wish there was a crowd here, but I’m sure it will be appreciated. What a team and what they are doing for the sport.

“It’s a shame they don’t have a runner in the next (Grand National Steeplechase) but the first lady of racing (Gai Waterhouse) does and so do we (Mapping).

They’ll be celebrating on home track: “Good on you boys, let’s do it again next year.”

On his own season: “At the start of the year I thought I was going to be in a lot of trouble and wouldn’t have many winners at all.

“I remember I rode a horse of Mussie’s (Eric Musgrove) at Terang in one of the first jumps races of the year and I had to waste hard and it ran fourth, and I realised just how much I loved doing it so I pushed on and what a year it has been.”
